Continued Success for Transplant Team Ireland this afternoon in the Petanque Doubles Event

Following on from the results round up earlier today, Transplant Team Ireland has won even more medals in the Petanque Doubles event at the 9th European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships.

In the combined 40-59 year Transplant and Dialysis category doubles team and dialysis patients, Chikoyo White, from Balbriggan and  Linda Waters  from Athenry, came third and each were awarded a Bronze medal.
The unstoppable duo, Bridie Nicholson, a kidney pancreas transplant recipient from Sligo and Marie O’Connor, a kidney transplant recipient from Lahinch, took first place together in the Petanque Doubles event securing a Gold medal each. Their second medals today as earlier, Bridie and Marie fought it out for first place in the Petanque singles event with Marie pipping Bridie to top position in what was a very close competition thus securing Marie a Gold and Bridie a Silver medal.
 In the combined 60-79 year age category Petanque doubles event,  Ned Crowe from Carrick-on-Suir and Mick Dwyer from Cabinteely, Dublin, both kidney transplant recipients, came third securing a bronze medal each.  Just yesterday Mick Dwyer won a Silver medal in the Darts event.
Following Tallaght man Lenny Ryan’s success in the singles event earlier on today, he joined newcomer to the team Stephen Byrne in the Doubles Event. The duo put on a great performance and were narrowly beaten by competition. Doubles Teams of Harry Ward and Paul Prendergast, and Charlie Ryan and John McAleer also competed extremely well.
It was a fantastic day of sportsmanship enjoyed by all, and the athletes are all looking forward to the Badminton and Swimming Events tomorrow.
This brings the final tally of medals on day two for Table Tennis and Petanque  events to 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 11 Bronze. Yesterday the team won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 bronze from the the first day of events in Darts.
