Six in a Row for Deirdre Faul

Deirdre Faul, a liver transplant recipient from Dalkey, Dublin secured the Gold in the Squash 40-49 years age category today. This is Deirdre’s sixth consecutive world games Gold in this event.

Following this phenomenal achievement Deirdre spoke of those that have supported her during her training and preparation for the Squash event, “I am delighted to have won the six in a row. I want to thank my squash coach Frank Donnelly and all the squash players at my club Old Belvedere for their support. Also, of course my fantastic father and two sons for all of their support throughout my Games participation. ”

Fellow Team Ireland Athlete, Shelia Gregan spoke of Deirdre’s commitment and focus to her sports, “she has excellent focus, commitment and attention to detail. She is a credit to her sport. To be honest, i am totally in awe of her.”

Deirdre underwent her liver transplant 14 years ago, following her win she reflected on how thankful and grateful she is to her Donor family for making the tough decision to donate. Deirdre has competed in every World Games since 2006, and will compete in the swimming events tomorrow and Thursday including: 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and 100m breast-stroke.
