Transplant Team Ireland is delighted to welcome newcomer Verina into the fold.
The Bulgarian native has been living in Ireland since 2002 and she now resides in Tallaght, Dublin. Initially Verina worked as a therapist at Powerscourt Hotel Spa in Wicklow until her kidney function failed and she then attended St. Vincent’s Hospital for dialysis treatment for 18 months.
A diabetic since she was 10 years of age, she was delighted to be called for a combined kidney and pancreas transplant in 2005 for which she says “it improved my quality of life greatly as not only was I not tied to dialysis treatment but I no longer had to take daily insulin”. After five years her kidney transplant failed and she returned to dialysis treatment which she undergoes at the Beacon Renal in Tallaght three times a week for 4 hours at a time.
Verina said, “I am delighted to be part of Transplant Team Ireland at the European Transplant and Dialysis Sports Championships in Cagliari. By taking part I hope that I can show my gratitude to my donors and help show how important organ donation is.”
