Paul, a kidney transplant recipient, is one of the most senior members of Transplant Team Ireland.
Earlier this year, surrounded by their 13 children and 16 grandchildren, Paul and his wife Rose celebrated 50 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows.
Paul said, “were it not for the kidney transplant I received 18 years ago I might not be alive today and would not be able to enjoy seeing all my children grow up and be here for my grandchildren. I was sick all through my forties and because of my illness which sapped my energy levels it was a difficult time for myself and Rose raising a large young family. By the time I was fifty I commenced dialysis treatment. I will always be grateful to my donor for giving me the opportunity to enjoy living. Taking part in Transplant Sport is a way of showing my sincere gratitude.”
Paul has travelled and taken part in numerous European and World Transplant Games with Rose always close by to cheer him on.
